1. Newsom Launches First-in-Nation California AI Cyber Defense Program

Governor Gavin Newsom directed state agencies to establish AI Cyber Defense Programs, designate AI cybersecurity officers across all agencies, and expand AI-enabled defenses to local governments and critical infrastructure operators, updating the state’s cybersecurity roadmap to Cal-Secure 2.0. The initiative is distinct from the Frontier AI Safety Bill that cleared the legislature the same day.


2. Pennsylvania Senate Passes SAFECHAT Act 49-1 to Regulate AI Chatbots for Minors

Pennsylvania SB 1090 requires AI chatbot operators to disclose their non-human status to minor users, implement protocols preventing promotion of self-harm, and block sexually explicit outputs – the bill now heads to the state House, which reconvenes September 9.


3. FTC Seeks Public Comment on AI Accuracy Policy Statement
