1. EU Digital Omnibus (Reg. 2026/1744) Published in Official Journal, Enters into Force July 27

Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 appeared in the EU Official Journal on July 24 and enters into force July 27, legally confirming that Annex III high-risk AI system obligations are deferred to December 2, 2027 and Annex I embedded-product obligations to August 2, 2028. GPAI enforcement and Article 50 transparency requirements are not affected and still activate August 2.
2. EO 14409 Classified Frontier Model Benchmarks Due in Six Days

NSA, CISA, and NIST have until August 1 to deliver classified benchmarks defining which AI systems qualify as covered frontier models under EO 14409, while the voluntary pre-release framework is also due that day. The outcome determines which AI developers will face mandatory 30-day pre-release government access requirements - the first operational definition of US frontier AI governance.
3. FTC Comment Period on AI Accuracy Policy Statement Closes July 31

The FTC’s proposed policy statement asserting that secretly steering AI outputs away from accurate answers may violate Section 5 of the FTC Act closes public comments in five days. Issued pursuant to EO 14365, this is the first FTC framework directly addressing AI output manipulation at the federal level.
