1. EU AI Act Transparency Code: 48 Hours to Sign for Presumption of Conformity

July 22 is the cut-off for companies to sign the EU AI Act Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content and receive a presumption of conformity with Article 50 obligations (chatbot disclosure, synthetic content marking, deepfake labelling) when enforcement begins August 2. Non-signatories face heightened regulatory scrutiny from day one, with no grace period extended to late entrants.
2. EU Digital Omnibus Still Unpublished as August 2 Window Narrows

The Digital Omnibus – carrying the December 2027 deferral for stand-alone Annex III high-risk AI systems – was signed July 8 but has not appeared in the Official Journal of the European Union. The regulation enters into force three days after publication, meaning it must be published by approximately July 30 for the extended deadline to take legal effect before August 2; until then, companies cannot formally rely on the deferral.
3. FTC Comment Period on AI Output Steering Closes July 31

The FTC’s proposed policy statement targeting undisclosed ideological steering of AI outputs under Section 5 of the FTC Act – issued under EO 14365 – closes its public comment period in 11 days. The statement would establish that secretly steering AI outputs away from accurate results constitutes deception, and may also preempt state laws requiring AI companies to alter their outputs for political balance.
