1. China’s Five-Agency Anthropomorphic AI Regulation Takes Effect July 15

China’s CAC and four partner agencies (NDRC, MIIT, MPS, SAMR) finalized the Interim Measures for the Administration of AI Anthropomorphic Interaction Services, taking effect July 15. The rules ban virtual intimate relationship services for minors, require algorithm filing and security assessment with the CAC, and mandate clear disclosure that services are AI-generated rather than human.


2. EU AI Act Omnibus Awaits Official Journal Publication Before August 2

The Council of the EU gave final approval to the AI Act simplification package on June 29, following Parliament’s June 16 endorsement. Until the text is published in the Official Journal, the original August 2, 2026 high-risk AI deadline formally remains in force – companies cannot yet rely on the December 2027 deferral.


3. Tennessee SB 1580: AI Cannot Be Marketed as a Licensed Mental Health Professional

Tennessee’s law prohibiting developers and deployers from advertising AI systems as qualified mental health professionals took effect July 1, with $5,000-per-violation penalties under the state Consumer Protection Act and a private right of action.
